Deutschland, here we come! π
We will use this blog to keep our families, friends, and followers up to date on all the sights we will see and experiences we will have while we are on our 2025 GAPP Trip in Germany.
AUF GEHT'S! (Let's go!)
Our group left ATL today and landed in Berlin (via Frankfurt) without any issues. After we dropped off our luggage at Hotel Kleist, we had lunch at an Italian pizzeria and took public transportation to the Reichstag, the seat of the German Bundestag (parliament), where tomorrow a new chancellor will be elected. Getting to the Reichstag proved a little trickier than expected due to delayed buses, road closures because of a demonstration, and highly aggressive train doors, but once we arrived, we enjoyed a beautiful sunset in the glass dome of the Reichstag.
Afterwards we walked to the Brandenburger Tor, arguably the most famous landmark in Germany (that is not a castle), and the Holocaust Memorial, which is also a maze that isn't easy to navigate when you're jet lagged and tired. At the Brandenburger Tor, we had a Berliner Currywurst (including the vegan version) and then took the subway back to the hotel to get a good night's sleep before we explore the city on foot tomorrow.
Overall, we had a fun first day. The kids enjoyed making new experiences and hanging our with their friends, and they showed remarkable stamina. Fun fact: Apparently Berlin likes to name stores after our kids (see below).
Stay tuned for more updates tomorrow! Gute Nacht aus Berlin!
Bon voyage,War Eagles!!
